In this
article, we discuss the IBM Power10 architecture and some of the new and unique
features of IBM's Q4 2021 Power platform. Not only do we discuss some of the
cool features of the IBM platform, but we also discuss what they mean for the
future of Intel Xeon (Sapphire Rapids), AMD EPYC (Genoa), and future Arm
processors such as Ampere's next-gen and Marvell ThunderX4.
We are going
to update the main site article during Hot Chips 32 (2020) with additional
microarchitectural details. Instead of going through them in this article, we
wanted to focus on what the IBM Power10 can tell us about the future of servers
and the pain points IBM is hearing its customers ask the company to address.
